Douglas Gayeton, the CEO of the Lexicon of Sustainability and author of “Local: The New Face of Food and Farming in America”, joins us from California to discuss Sustainability and Food Systems. In addition to the presentation Douglas will be offering a 90-minute, small group workshop earlier in the day. Douglas and his wife Laura founded the Lexicon in 2009 and continue to guide the project from their goat farm near Petaluma, California. The Lexicon of Sustainability helps people understand the most basic terms and principles that define sustainability. This way people can start living more sustainable lives by exploring and learning the lexicon that was developed by the contributions of nearly two hundred leaders in food and farming from across the country. Their insights serve as the centerpiece for a series of short films which educate, engage and activate people to pay closer attention to how they eat, what they buy, and where their responsibility begins for creating a healthier, safer food system in America.

Meal: Locally raised Chicken

Dessert: Chocolate (need I say more?!)
